Interwinter 2012
The Interwinter Series 2012 is an affordable series of races run by mountain bike clubs to keep you keen through winter.
When and where
Round 1 – 13 May – Three-hour enduro at Creswick, hosted by the Ballarat Sebastapol Cycling Club - RESULTS
Round 2 – 3 June – XCO (lap based) in the Walmer Forest, Castlemaine hosted by the Castlemaine Rocky Riders – Enter online
Round 3 – 8 July – XCM at Redesdale, hosted by the Full Gas Peddlers – Enter online
Round 4 - 12 Aug – Three stage race at the You Yangs, hosted by the Geelong Mountain Bike Club – Enter online
Grades
Women’s grade as well as A, B, C grades.

Cost
Single race – $25 via Entry Zone or $30 on the day. We recommend pre-race entry to avoid queues.
Series entry – Enter all four races at Entryzone for only $80!
Riders without an MTBA license will also need a $20 day licence. Day licences are available online and on the day.

Course
Predominantly single track, with short sections of fire road. Approximately a 5km lap with no major climbs. Elites should take around 20 minutes per lap.
Format
An Olympic format cross country race, with each grade completing a set number of laps. Expect (but subject to change):
- Women* – 4 laps
- C grade – 4 laps
- B grade – 5 laps
- A grade – 6 laps
- Dirtmasters (under 13s) a 20 minute race on a modified circuit.
*Women may choose to enter A grade or B grade.
Program
- 8.30 – 9.30am – Registration/On the day entries. Course open for practice.
- 10am – Dirtmaster race
- 10.25am – Pre-race briefing
- 10.30am – Race start (each grade starts approx. 2 minutes apart)
Catering
There’ll be a coffee van as well as the BBQ fired up with lots of bacon!
Getting there
Walmer State Forest is five minutes’ drive from Castlemaine and is accessed via Castlemaine-Muckleford Rd. Signage will be up from the Midland Highway. View a map of the event location.
View directions from Melbourne/Geelong - From the traffic lights in Castlemaine head north toward Bendigo. Turn left at Parker St, cross the railway tracks and at the top of the hill vear right and proceed past the Don KRC bacon factory. Stay on this road as it vears left, then heads over a crest before access to the race is on the left at bottom of hill.
View directions from Bendigo - Head south from Harcourt. On the northern outskirts of Castlemaine, turn right just before the railway bridge. Take first right (just before the botanical gardens). Proceed to end, then turn right & vear left before heading over the crest before access to the race is on the left at bottom of hill.
Race site information
- No water is available. All riders should bring their own drinking water in addition to usual race gear (bike, helmet, food, spares etc.)
- No camping allowed
- Toilets will be available
- All rubbish to be removed. Any rider found littering the course will be disqualified
- There may be mine shafts in the area. Keep to made roads/tracks at all times
- There is limited parking available. Please car pool!
