Who’s the Bos? – Andrew Bos, Rider Profile

Mar16

Name – Andrew Bos

Profession – Architect

Uphill or Downhill? No preference. I’ve fallen off on both.

Most epic day on a bike? 2009 Otway Odyssey. I’ve run a marathon and this race made running 42km seem like a walk to the shops.

I’m currently riding… Good points and bad points. Just purchased a Giant Anthem X Advanced. Can’t find a bad thing to say about it. My previous bike was set up more for racing and was not particularly well suited to my less than graceful riding style. The Giant climbs better, descends better, corners better, is more forgiving and feels like a more robust bike. If there is a downside it’s that it sometimes gives me a false sense of security…and with my track record that’s the last thing I need!

Favourite trails (other than Castlemaine) - Rode most of the trails up at Mt Buller recently and had a blast. The descent from Mt Stirling on Stonefly was possibly the best 10 minutes I’ve spent on a mountain bike. Oh and If you happen to be up there with Ben Bailey don’t listen to him when he says “Wow! Check out the view!”. One of the first mtb tips I received was to look ahead to where I want to ride rather than at the ground immediately in front of me. When you’re on the side of a mountain at 1500m above sea level the “view” is not the place you want to be pointing your bike!

If I wasn’t mountain biking I’d be… running still. But my knees would’ve probably given up by now.

One day I’ll ride… and not fall off.

When I head out for a ride I never leave without… my GPS. My obsession with maps is a bit worrying.

My race highlight - 2009 Otway Odyssey. Being new to the mountain bike scene I was rapt just to finish.

Andrew Grant

We are just over half way through the weekly Dirt Crit series and the young riders are coming into some good form with a tacky track and cooler conditions prevailing. The place also looks prettier since the clean up last Sunday. Andrew Grant finally cracked the sub 6 minute lap average to take first closely followed by Ottis Rees-Maclean in second who proved that he does go faster when he’s not whingeing about his bike. Third place was claimed by Will Reid. The school aged set are dominating this series but it was good to see a few more senior riders tonight attempting to give them a run for their money. Full Results here.

Pump, Tube and Tools. Don't leave home without them.

Next week there will be Bonus Series Points up for grabs. All you have to do is bring 3 items (1) A pump (2) A tube or patch kit (3) A multi tool or allen keys and carry them with you while you race. You get ONE bonus point for each item. So 3 bonus points all up if you bring all three. Simple.

A relaxed air at the Dirt Crit Start grid.

Haven’t been to a dirt crit yet? We’d love to see you. It is an all inclusive fun short course handicap format. Kind of a cat and mouse race on a fun flowy 1.8 km circuit of mostly single track. Click Here for more info.

Most of the clean up crew after a 2.5 hr clean up effort.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped out at the Dirt Crit cleanup day. We manged to clean out a gully filled with illegally dumped refuse and completely fill a council skip with every thing from mattresses to car bonnets and syringes. Well done gang. It is a job we can all be proud of.

Jim and his daughters lend a hand and pick the bush clean of litter.
